Keynote Address: Measuring Development Conference (MeasureDev) 2026, World Bank

Edward Miguel presents new evidence on how widespread publication bias is in economics, and what can be done to shrink it. The talk centers on the Reporting Guidelines and Publication Bias (RGPB) project – a BITSS effort with Fernando Hoces de la Guardia, Gufran Pathan, Akash Shaji, Viviane Silva da Rocha, Erik Sørensen, and Bertil Tungodden – which confronts the field’s core “denominator problem”: how many hypothesis tests researchers actually run, and how many quietly end up in the file drawer.
